Radial Polarization Converters (S-waveplates)는 레이저 빔의 스폿 크기를 축소하기 위해 선형 편광을 방사형 또는 방위형 편광으로 변환하도록 설계된 space-variant retarder입니다. 또는 원형 편광을 도넛 모양의 optical vortex로 변환하는 데도 사용됩니다. 이 converter는 펨토초 레이저를 사용해 용융 실리카 내부에 자체적으로 조직된 nanograting을 새기는 방식으로 제조됩니다. 방사형 편광빔은 높은 종횡비로 금속을 미세 천공(micro-drilling)해야 하는 용도에서 높은 효율성을 제공하는 데 반해, 도넛 모양의 vortex 빔은 STED 또는 2광자 여기 형광 현미경 검사, 레이저 마이크로머시닝, 광학 핀셋을 사용하는 용도(다중 입자 트래핑)에 이상적으로 사용할 수 있습니다.

Higher Order Radial Polarization Converters (S-Waveplates)는 위상 전하가 증가하는 고위 수차 편광 패턴 및 optical vertex를 생성하거나 axicon과 사용할 경우 vector Bessel beam을 생성할 수 있습니다. 이와 같은 유형의 빔은 투명 재료의 마이크로홀 천공과 같은 마이크로머시닝 용도에 사용됩니다.
